If you follow athletes on Twitter, you've certainly seen the losers pop up on your timeline begging athletes for a RT or #followback. It's almost become the new autograph.That's why during Monday night's Home Run Derby—which, to put it charitably, was broadcast on television—it was hilarious to witness the thousands of people on Twitter rooting for Jose Bautista.After some digging, I found the sole purpose for this was not due to the fact that these people were fans of the Blue Jays, or even fans of him. No, it was because Bautista ['s verified Twitter account] follows them.

As you see, these people felt the need to Tweet out that they are rooting for the guy because he follows them. They felt unique. As unique as a someone in a group of 245,000 people can possibly be.But it didn't stop there. Last night's All-Star Game brought out even more people out tweeting about how Bautista follows them.
I give up.But hey, Joey Bautista must be an incredible speed-reader
