Vanderbilt Absolutely Botched Its Comeback Against Northwestern

Vanderbilt had a chance to pull off the comeback against Northwestern but major brain farts at the end of the game did them in.

Well, what the hell was that? Vanderbilt and Northwestern played the best game of the tournament so far, with Vanderbilt clawing back to take the lead in the final minutes. Both teams then traded buckets as the clock ticked down until there were about 25 seconds left. After some Northwestern free throws, Vandy got the ball, down one, and the shot clock turned off. Riley LaChance drove the lane and scored to take the lead with about 18 seconds left. They could have held the ball for the final shot, but hey, they scored. Then, for some reason Matthew Fisher-Davis fouled Bryant McIntosh, sending him to the line for two free throws. It was…breathtaking.

Fisher-Davis—who must have thought they were still trailing and in the heat of the moment his brain went *boink*—almost immediately knew he fucked up and apologized to his team, but the damage was done. McIntosh hit his free throws, giving Northwestern a 67-66 with 14 seconds left. Then Vandy did what teams seem to always, always do in this tournament at the end of the game. LaChance dribbled around aimlessly and then took a wildly deep three pointer that missed. Game Northwestern.
