An arrest warrant has reportedly been issued for the WBA light welterweight world champion Adrien Broner following an alleged assault and robbery subsequent to a game of bowling.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer report, Broner had a gambling dispute with a former friend named Christopher Carson.

The lawsuit alleges that both Broner and Carson had wagered multiple bets worth thousands of dollars to prove "their bowling prowess" in January in Cincinnati—Broner's hometown.

Broner lost those bowling games and subsequently lost all the money he had that night, before storming out of Madison Bowl when Carson refused to take another bet on a game which Broner purportedly said he would pay back on credit.

Carson soon left the building to find Broner and a group of eight men waiting for him outside. The lawsuit accuses Broner of punching Carson before threatening him with a gun.

With his hands the air, trying to comply and appease an infuriated Broner, Carson was punched for a second time by Broner which knocked him unconscious. Startled and bloody, Carson awoke to find all the money he had won from Broner that night—amounting to $12,000—missing from his person. Carson was then hospitalized due to the severity of the gash on his chin suffered from the incident.

Carson's attorney, Chris Finney, said: "Adrien seems to have a penchant for walking around town and slugging people. We want it to stop."

Broner is slated to face off against 35-year-old British boxer Ashley Theophane on April 1st in his first defence of his WBA light welterweight title he won against Russian Khabib Allakhverdiev with a twelfth round TKO.

The Cincinatti native has said very little about this incident. But, he appears to be pretty dismissive of the reports with his retort to ESPN's Dan Rafael:

There are questions whether this fight will go ahead with the arrest warrant attributed to Broner's name, but he later tweeted "Fight around the corner #8Days" [sic] just hours after this news broke—apparently defiant of all the talk about him in the press.

While it remains to be seen if Broner is found guilty or is acquitted of this latest incident, the fighter nicknamed "The Problem"—as Finney alluded to—has indeed been a problem to the law before and since gaining his in-ring notoriety.

In 2013, Broner posted his mugshot to Instagram (before later removing it) following an assault and battery charge made against him. This time he was accused of fighting a group of men – even biting one on the arm. In 2007—days before his 17th birthday—Broner was charged as an adult despite being a minor for aggravated robbery and two counts of felonious assault and battery—he later made bail of $100,000 cash before being charged again for assault and battery, violating his bond, though Broner was later acquitted of these incidents.

Though he wasn't found guilty for the above charges made against him, the now 26-year-old remains a promising boxing talent, but has a copybook so blotted that you can't help but wish he could save this energy and aggression for the ring alone.

It looks like the Theophane fight slated for April Fools' Day will materialize. Let's hope Broner can stop acting the fool outside of boxing from here on in.
