Terry Francona Roasts Rays Manager Kevin Cash on Video Board

Francona managed Cash for three seasons in Boston and had him on his coaching staff in Cleveland before he left for Tampa Bay.

Before kicking off a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland manager Terry Francona told the assembled media at his pre-game press conference that he had a little surprise in store for his friend Kevin Cash. Prior to being named Rays manager in 2015, Cash spent two seasons as the Indians bullpen coach, and he also played three years for Francona in Boston. They are, for now, friends.

That surprise was a severe burn courtesy of the Indians outfield video board:

For a particularly brutal bit of optics, here is Cash throwing BP in front of his woeful stats:

This is also not the first time Francona has taken a shot at Cash's meager offensive output. He did something similar last year, and back when the Rays first visited after Cash was named manager, Francona talked about how he really, really wanted him to become a coach back in his Boston days:

"When he was in the batter's box, I wanted him to be a coach," Francona joked. "I saw the way he handled himself as a backup catcher. I saw the presence he had in the clubhouse that was way more than a backup catcher who's hitting .140 -- when he was hot -- should have."

Baseball, as they say, is a game of failure and Cash is all too familiar. As it stands now, Terry Francona is beating Kevin Cash, 3-0.
