In the fifth inning at Wrigley Field against the Brewers, Anthony Rizzo recorded the second out with the kind of catch you likely would never see if Rizzo didn't seem to specialize in catches like this. Keon Broxton skied a pop fly near the Brewers bullpen in foul territory and Rizzo ranged all the way over from first to the ledge of the stands, where he appeared to have run out of room. Rather than give up, or wildly dive into the stands, he simply stepped up onto the ledge, which is a solid foot wide, and then leaned in between the first and second rows to snag the ball out of the air.
He made a similar catch almost exactly one year ago, also against Milwaukee, when he jumped on the tarp, then the ledge, and then made the out before his momentum carried him into the stands. Even though these catches are apparently now routine for him, Rizzo was still sort of amazed by himself and couldn't help but laugh and mutter, "I dunno."But the best reaction might have been the Cubs bros who saw the play unfold right in front of them. They were trying to simultaneously get out of the way while also positioning themselves to make a play on the ball and when they finally saw what Rizzo did, it blew their minds.
