U.S. Sprinter Predicted She Would Be in Olympics Five Years Ago

There is confidence, and then there is whatever University of Texas sprinter Morolake Akinosun is working with here. In 2011, Akinosun was a teenager in high school with pretty a pretty straightforward five-year plan: graduate college and make the Olympics, and she tweeted as much:

That wasn't so much an aspirational tweet, or a matter of putting her goals on record; it was a statement of facts to come. Pretty ballsy, but also accurate.

Akinosun, a sprinter, began her college career at Illinois and then transferred to Texas. According to her Team USA bio, she is only the second woman in history to score in four events at the NCAA Championships in two consecutive years. The first was Jackie Joyner-Kersee, so, yeah. Akinosun's a ten-time first-team All-American and a two-time NCAA champ in the 4X400-meter relay. It's safe to say she knew what she was talking about five years ago.

Akinosun will make good on her collegiate prediction in December, and she'll officially make good on her Olympics prediction next Friday, August 12th, when she steps onto the blocks for the 100 meter.
