Gonzaga Snuff Out Underdog South Carolina to Head to First Ever Championship Appearance

That leaves you something to cheer about. (Because who wants to root for North Carolina?)

As an impartial observer, it was unfair trying to decide who to root for in today's Final Four matchup between Gonzaga and South Carolina. No. 7 seed South Carolina became a cinderella story sweetheart—particularly after knocking out Duke—and made a glorious 16-0 run in the second half today to tie the game and keep this game alive. But despite being ranked No. 1 seed this year, the perennially under-ranked Gonzaga brought a bit of underdog clout themselves.

In the end it was Gonzaga who pulled away 77-73—thanks to some heroics from the poked-in-the-eye cyclops Przemek Karnowski, and a miraculous recovery from Nigel Williams-Goss after this very ouchy-looking ankle roll. Gonzaga are now headed to the National Championships for the first time in the history of their program. That leaves you something to cheer about. (Because who wants to root for North Carolina?)
