Larry Sanders Almost Scored On His Own Basket

Larry Sanders almost scored on his own basket and nearly gave Jason Kidd a heart attack in the process.

This was almost a disaster of hysterical proportions, but Bucks forward Larry Sanders realized just in time that his would-be layup was entirely too easy. Either that, or every person in the building not wearing a Sixers uniform was yelling at him to not shoot on his own basket. The best part, though, is how he does it so smoothly.

So many things could have gone wrong here once he realized—he could have spazzed out and lost possession of the ball, he could have panicked and tripped, or travelled, or he could have internally combusted and just fallen—but he did none of that. He simply and almost elegantly pivoted and turned a layup into a windmilling pass, like that was the plan the whole time. What, you thought I was going to shoot on our hoop? Nah man, just buying some room to maneuver.

The play—off a jump ball in Milwaukee's end—came midway through the fourth quarter, with the Bucks holding on to an 84-81 lead over the Sixers. That might explain why his coach Jason Kidd looked like he was watching that scene in every horror movie when one of the teenagers inexplicably walks off into the woods alone in the direction where we all know the murderous spectre has been hanging out.

The Bucks did manage to hang on to beat the Sixers 93-81, which means had Larry Sanders been successful, he would have scored Philly's only points in the final eight-plus minutes.
