According to report out of KHNL in Hawaii, Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested on October 31 after a violent altercation with his wife in their Four Seasons hotel room on Maui. Reyes and his wife, Katherine, were reportedly arguing in the room in the afternoon. Katherine told police that at one point Reyes grabbed her and threw her off the bed, and sources told KHNL that she also told officers that Reyes grabbed her by the throat and shoved her into the sliding glass door to the balcony.Hotel security called the police and Reyes was arrested and later released on bail. Katherine was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where she was treated for injuries to her neck, wrist, and thigh. The policy allows commissioner Rob Manfred to suspend a player for "just cause" and is not dependent on a criminal conviction, but he can defer his own decision until the criminal process is resolved.Players can be suspended with pay while criminal charges are pending if the commissioner determines "allowing the player to play during the pendency of the criminal or legal proceeding would result in substantial or irreparable harm to either the club or Major League Baseball."
