Stepson Stabs Stepmother to Death for Gloating About Cowboys Win

Pontrey O'Neal Jones, 20, killed his stepmother Magdalena Ruiz after she celebrated the Cowboys' 26-20 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Ruiz was watching the game with her husband, Jones' father, and apparently her happiness over the win—at the expense of her husband—set off her 20-year-old stepson.

After the game ended, Jones returned home after being out, grabbed a knife lodged behind the couch and stabbed Ruiz multiple times, according to KEYE TV in Austin. Jones believed that Ruiz was "disrespecting his father and gloating about how the Cowboys won the game."

Her husband tried to stop the attack, and Jones ran off but was found about 10 minutes later, naked in the grass on their street.

Ruiz was taken to the hospital but died shortly after.

The attack, however, seems like it was not completely off the cuff, according to the TV station.

Jones told officers he had initially decided to break his little sister's neck, but after changing his mind he had "developed a plan against" the victim, stashing a black-handled knife in the living room couch.

He has been charged with murder and had his bail set at $500,000.
