Colin Cowherd on Skip Bayless, Johnny Manziel, and Himself: I'm a Bigger Idiot

Colin Cowherd used news that Johnny Manziel is going to rehab to further bash the athlete, while simultaneously praising Skip Bayless, Jim Rome, and himself.

Colin Cowherd did something amazing today. He seamlessly wove news about Johnny Manziel entering rehab with a defense of Skip Bayless, a discussion on what it means to be a person of high character, and a comparison to former president George W. Bush.

Skip Bayless caught some heat for going on television and calling Johnny Manziel an alcoholic, which was shocking and irresponsible and so right in Skip's wheelhouse. Now that Manziel has entered rehab, Cowherd used this opportunity to praise Bayless for having the guts to report the story. The intestinal fortitude required to report such a story being as great as it is, Cowherd gave him his due.

There's so much to unpack here, but the long and the short of it is that Cowherd hated Manziel until today. Now that Johnny Football has admitted to the mistakes for which Cowherd hated him, he is now worthy of a sports talk radio host's respect. Cowherd somehow turned a story about an athlete's health issue into a recitation on the trusty sports media trope of "maturity" and what it takes to succeed as a sports media personality.

It's stunning, really. Paternalism in sports media is an unstoppable force, and Colin Cowherd is the bigger idiot we need to show us exactly how unstoppable. Also, to tell you that he packs his own lunch, thank you very much.
