Early Edition Boston Globe Reports Patriots Lost

Can we live in this alternate universe? Even if it is in Florida?

Family friends in Naples, FL had this delivered to their house this morning. The perils of early edition newspapers. pic.twitter.com/iSbchhrqSx

Ah, newspapers. So quaint, so wrong. An early edition of the Boston Globe distributed in south Florida this morning had what likely would have been the defining image of the Super Bowl—if it had ended after just one half. Under the headline "A Bitter End," appeared a picture of a mortal Tom Brady, crawling like a miserable wretch of a loser in the foreground, as he watched in anguish as Robert Alford returned an interception for an Atlanta touchdown and a commanding 21-0 lead just before the two minute warning.

At that point, it looked for all the world that Atlanta was going to win Super Bowl LI. And, at least for some grabbing their coffee this morning, that still was true. But the rest of us watched that remarkable comeback and know better (and didn't have to worry about getting newspapers printed and ready for shipping before the game ended). The Patriots outscored the Falcons 34-7 after that picture was taken, and Julian Edelman's absurd catch is the defining image of this Super Bowl. Tom Brady is not a wretched loser, he is a five-time Super Bowl champion and four-time Super Bowl MVP.
