16-Year-Old Skis to South Pole, Trolls Men Who Told her to Make a Sandwich

There is one incontrovertible truth about the internet: people are the worst. Not even a badass 16-year-old, record-setting explorer can escape the hideousness of men cowering behind avatars from thousands of miles away. What's the best way to respond to men who tell you to get in the kitchen and make them a sandwich? Jade Hameister skied to the South Pole and left a ham and cheese sandwich—and a challenge—for them.

Hameister, an Australian explorer and skier, did more at age 14 than any human being did in our 200,000-year existence, up until 1909: reach the North Pole. This made her the youngest person—male or female—ever to have skied to the North Pole from anywhere outside the last degree of latitude.

Then, two weeks ago, to add to her list of accomplishments, she completed the Polar Hat Trick—which involves reaching the North and South Poles, and crossing Greenland. And, duh, she was the youngest person to do that too. Hameister completed the triumvirate at the (much, much colder) ceremonial South Pole—and decided to take a break to troll all of her haters.

So, a little context here: back in 2016, when Hameister reached the North Pole, she gave a TED Talk about how young women should be allowed to "be more rather than less." You would think that it would be a pretty easy message to agree with—that society fixates too much on women's appearances and not on their abilities. But again, this video was published on the Internet. Thus came the swarm of haters, posting sexist comments below the YouTube video. In some of them, men told her, a 16-year-old who is internationally known as a freaking polar explorer, to get back in the kitchen and make her a sandwich.

Well, she took note, and one of the first things she did after reaching the ceremonial South Pole was she made them that fucking sandwich:
