Sports Radio Clowns Struggle to Discuss Caitlyn Jenner

Sports radio can't even get sports talk right, so it's no surprise these two hosts struggle to talk about Caitlyn Jenner.

It is fair to say that for many people, it is difficult to discuss the story of Caitlyn Jenner. And, while we are being fair, that is probably OK. Ignorance—not the willful and hateful kind, but the not-knowing-stuff kind—is a normal fact of life that we all grapple with. Plenty of people may pick up a cover of Vanity Fair and look at Caitlyn Jenner and feel unsure how to process the fact that the person they once knew as the man Bruce Jenner is now a woman named Caitlyn. It's kind of nuanced.

On the other hand, it's really not all that nuanced. Caitlyn Jenner says she has always been Caitlyn Jenner even though she began her life as Bruce. There's really no questioning that because literally no one else is Caitlyn Jenner, so how would they know? Caitlyn Jenner just…is. It shouldn't be hard to respect that—to respect her.

Enter WFAN's Joe Benigno and Mike Francesa.

Benigno started the day off mistaking Caitlyn for one of her daughters and leeringly commented "She's pretty good…Father's a little messed up, but she's pretty good. She's cute! How old is she?" That's when his co-host corrected him and said Caitlyn was not the daughter. At which point Benigno stammered "whaaa, that's Bruce?!"

Then, because this is sports talk radio, a caller called Francesa looking to poke fun at Benigno for essentially finding a "man" attractive. And Mike obliged. The two guys had a nice chuckle about how Benigno "actually thought she was attractive, which is kind of scary."

For sure, this is a difficult topic to sort through and talk about, especially off-the-cuff live on the radio, but Jesus Christ guys, get it together and try to at least act like adults.
