Cleveland Weatherman Shaves Beard After Browns Finally Win in Week 15

Their victory also meant a loss for Sabol—of his beard, which he had been growing since September.

Meteorologist Scott Sabol of Cleveland's Fox 8 TV is a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan—one who remembers the Bernie Kosar-Reggie Langhorne "glory days" of the 1980s, along with the time Art Modell skipped town with the team in 1995.

Sabol (not related to Steve Sabol of NFL Films) also knows how to grow a full beard, and is admittedly lazy—two 'skills' he first combined a few years ago when he approached his boss with the concept of not shaving until temperatures hit 60 degrees in Cleveland. (Sabol also once used his follicular fortitude to raise $2,000 for cancer research during Movember.)

Enter the 2016 Browns who, understandably, were labeled bad enough throughout the season to go 0-16. It didn't turn out that way, though, with the Browns winning on Saturday in Week 15, thanks to a missed field goal. Their victory also meant a loss for Sabol—of his beard, which he had been growing since September in his most recent protest to not shave until the Browns chalked up a W.

Sabol's a good-looking weather reporter, beard or not, but the beard was getting out of hand. Or, in this case, getting out of face.

From his blog, Scott Sabol's World of Science, he explains the starting point for not shaving this time:

Fast forward to late August of 2016. After one of my son's football games, he mentioned that it's been a while since I grew a beard…almost three years. Both of my kids have fond memories coloring my beard with sidewalk chalk when they were really little. Around this time RG3 went down with a serious injury after game one of the Cleveland Browns season and I needed another excuse to grow a beard. After Labor Day I approached my news director and asked him if I could grow my beard again until the Browns win their first game.

Sabol notes that, under the agreement with his boss, he would have shaved the beard after the season even if the Browns had lost all of their games. They wouldn't have allowed Sabol to grow the beard into 2017 and next football season. It's understandable because they've got a TV station to run, but it's not really a championship attitude if you can't commit to funny, now is it?
