The New York Yankees officially have a better quarterback than the New York Jets.

That headline is not a Mad Libs gone awry, it is as factually correct as factually correct gets. Back in 2010, the Colorado Rockies selected Russell Wilson in the fourth round of the MLB draft. He played two years of pro ball in the Rockies system before the Texas Rangers selected him in the 2013 Rule 5 draft.
While this was going on, of course, Wilson was playing quarterback for N.C. State and Wisconsin, before being selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft. He's gone on to win a Super Bowl and appear in four Pro Bowls as an NFL quarterback. All the while, the Texas Rangers retained his baseball rights, and they just traded him to the Yankees "for future considerations."
Wilson is not going to be the next Deion Sanders or Bo Jackson, however. He just wants to keep his baseball life alive. It appears the Rangers were simply using him as a motivational speaker of sorts, to educate young players on the ups and down of being a professional athlete. According to ESPN, he has always wanted to play for the Yankees, and the two teams were able to work out a deal to make that happen—in spring training, at least.
In a statement, Wilson said he was grateful to the Rangers for allowing him to "experience baseball again."
"While football is my passion and my livelihood, baseball remains a huge part of where I came from and who I am today. I've learned so much on the baseball field that translates to my game physically and mentally playing quarterback in the NFL. I thank the Rangers and their great fans for making me feel at home and a part of the family! While I embrace the chance to be a New York Yankee, I will forever be grateful to have been a part of a world class organization like the Texas Rangers."
Wilson is expected to report to the Yankees Grapefruit League camp sometime in February or March.
So in yet another crushing blow to a fanbase that has no shortage of grief, the New York Yankees officially have a better quarterback than the New York Jets.
