Woman Injured by Falling Man Sues Barclays Center Over Dangerous Seat Design

A Long Island woman injured by a falling man at a Billy Joel concert is suing the Barclays Center because of it's dangerous seat design in the upper levels.

I would put a giant slide down Barclays instead of these stairs… pic.twitter.com/SiQPVJlUP9

A woman who was injured when a drunken reveler fell down on her during a Billy Joel concert at Barclays Center is suing the arena's operators, Brooklyn Events Center and AEG Management Brooklyn, for injuries she sustained as a result of the fall. According to DNAinfo, the suit alleges that the man was "staggering back to his seat" carrying a tray of booze when he fell and tumbled down the narrow and steep stairs onto Elizabeth Silver, a 53-year-old Long Island woman.

Moments before the fall, the boozed-up bozo was spotted "stumbling in a dangerous fashion from an arena concession stand, passed arena personnel and up a steeply inclined set of steps while attempting to return to his seat," the lawsuit says.

Obviously the man's intoxication played a role, but this is an arena designed to host sporting events and concerts; there will be drunkards. At issue in the suit is the design of the upper levels of Barclays, which seems to invite this sort of thing. Look at that picture up there. It's already disorienting to be scaling steps that high up, throw in massive, lively crowds and alcohol and you've got disorientation, cubed.

Our very own Jorge Arangure has been up in those seats and he's said it doesn't feel safe sitting up there. "I actually had a friend tumble into the next row because they are so angled."

Silver alleges in her suit that she suffered (undisclosed) permanent injuries as a result of the "unreasonably unsafe, hazardous and dangerous seating design in the upper levels of the arena." She also alleges that the operators had knowledge of these conditions from the many complaints filed by attendees since the arena opened.
