While athletes have been mostly silent this election cycle (it's almost over!) and steered clear of endorsements save for a few, they have been more assertive with their money. A number of high-profile current and former players and coaches have donated money to the Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump campaigns this year.CBS Sports compiled them all in one place but there are a few interesting ones to note, on both sides of the moneyed aisle, with 59 sports people donating in total.
- Breitbart radio host Curt Schilling has been a vocal proponent of Trump, even going so far as to debase himself on television to support his position, but he's only talking. Schilling has given just $250 to the Trump campaign. But what he lacks in financial investment, the Schilldog obviously makes up for with his get-out-the-vote skill and ability to raise enthusiasm.
- Former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz is also a vocal Trump supporter. He was partying during the Republican National Convention because he was so damn happy. Except he also gave $1,000 to Clinton.
- Buccaneers owner Edward Glazer is trying to play on both teams, kind of. He gave $55,400 to the Trump campaign and also $5,400 to Clinton.
- Muhammad Ali donated $2,700 to Clinton before his death.
- Trump has the crucial Richie Incognito vote. Incognito, once a pariah in the NFL, donated $500 to Trump.
- Sammy Sosa is With Her, and donating a robust $5,400 to Clinton.
- Jagger Rusconi, a Red Sox fifth round pick in 2015 who signed for a $384,000 bonus, gave $2,700 to Clinton. He may have actually given the most of anyone on this last based on the actual value of that donation.
- Dale Scott, the former MLB umpire, gave $72 to Clinton, which is kind of just a weird amount to settle on.
- Jets safety Calvin Pryor gave $2,700 to Clinton, while Jets owner Woody Johnson gave $100,000 to Trump and held a fundraiser for him.
- Texans owner Bob McNair donated $5.9 million in total to several campaigns this cycle, including $254,600 to Trump.
