FIFA Communications Chief Resigned (or Was Fired) Because of This Pretty Great Joke

FIFA's communications director had to step down because he told a pretty funny joke about the criminals running FIFA.

Walter De Gregorio, FIFA's Communications Director, has either resigned of his own volition because FIFA is a raging inferno of garbage, or he was forced out for telling this pretty great joke about Sepp Blatter and Jerome Valcke.

De Gregorio—who you'll recall from all the press conferences FIFA has been putting on in the wake of the corruption investigation, presidential vote, and presidential re-vote—went on the Roger Schawinksi show in Switzerland and told the following joke:

"FIFA President Sepp Blatter, the General Secretary, and the Communications Director are in a car. Who is driving?

The police."

That's a good joke, man! And he's poking fun at himself as well. But FIFA's gonna FIFA, and released a statement earlier today.

"Walter De Gregorio has decided to relinquish his office with immediate effect as director of communications and public affairs. Mr. De Gregorio joined FIFA on 14 September 2011 and will serve FIFA on a consultancy basis until the end of this year.
"His deputy Nicolas Maingot will resume the role ad interim."

Meanwhile, Sepp Blatter is still President.

Sepp Blatter: "FIFA is going through difficult times. This makes me all the more proud that our organisation runs smoothly in a crisis."
