Cyclist Richie Porte Being Treated After Horrific High Speed Crash

The scary crash ended his Tour de France hopes.

Tour de France favorite Richie Porte was rounding a corner in Stage 9 of the race today, when he clipped a corner and drove head-first into the asphalt. The video shows what appears to be Porte's shoulder hitting first and then him rolling onto his neck before skidding into rider Dan Martin. Porte was given a neck brace and was stretchered onto an ambulance.

This particular stage tours France's steep Jura mountains, where riders pick up speeds of upwards of 45 miles per hour. Porte's crash happened on one of those high speed descents:

There are no specific updates on his condition, though he reportedly told medics that he was feeling alright:

According to Ponte's racing team, BMC, he suffered a fractured clavicle and pelvis. Ponte is expected to be out between four to six weeks, but will not undergo surgery as of yet. He was stable enough to be transferred home.
