Florida Police Officer Plays Basketball With Kids After Receiving a Stupid Noise Complaint

It feels like a 90's PSA, but it's still nice.

Fuck, fuck, fuck the poli… nah, ok, ok. Maybe not this time; this is actually kind of sweet.

The Gainesville police department received a pretty stupid call that some kids were playing basketball "loudly" in the street (it was 5 p.m.) so they sent out an officer to investigate. Good thing that officer was 'cool guy' Officer White. After a quick rundown of how dumb the complaint was, the cop just started hooping it up. The kids even lowered the hoop so he could dunk. It looks like fun.

Instead of coming in hot, White just asked, "can you believe someone's calling to complain about kids playing basketball in the street? I don't know who's calling, but obviously I ain't got no problem with it." He later asked them to "try not to be too loud"—but not after putting up a few shots.

The Gainesville Police Department decided to post the dash cam video of the incident with the following message,

Officer White was recently dispatched to a call of kids playing basketball "loudly" in the streets. If it's ok…we are going to focus on the kids that are out committing crimes. #HoopsNotCrime

It comes across as a pretty PR-y, 90's PSA-y way to say "hey, cops are cool." But it kind of worked, because here I am, thinking that this cop is pretty cool. Nice work, Officer White.
