Foxborough seems nice. This is the haul Foxborough police confiscated from someone in the employee lot at Gillette Stadium yesterday at the NHL's Winter Classic. Just about two hours before the puck dropped between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens, police were alerted to a "suspicious male party" in the lot. When they went to check it out, they found 48-year-old Matthew Bromson and a car full of swords and crossbows. It appears police were correct in assessing the risk to the stadium, but Bromson does have a history. And, if you can believe it, it's kind of nuts. In September of 2014, Bromson was arrested after a nearly nine-hour standoff with police at his home. Police were seeking to arrest him on an outstanding warrant around 6 p.m. and he refused to comply, barricaded himself inside his home, and allegedly threatened to shoot officers.Bromson is being charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct, possession of an electric stun gun, and three charges of assault with a dangerous weapon.
Foxborough Police say this is an isolated incident and at no time was there a threat to Gillette Stadium.
Bromson went much easier yesterday—"without incident"—and he's being held pending an arraignment at Wrentham District Court on Monday.Bromson is known by police to possess a number of handguns and rifles, however police said at no time was the public in any danger.
Police along with the assistance of the North Central Emergency Services Team were able to get Bromson to surrender just after 2:30 a.m. Friday morning.
