The Curry-Messi Bromance Continues With Another Signed Jersey

It was because of Instagram—a little cheesy.

Bromance feels like a term reserved for mid-aughts comedies (think 40 Year Virgin, Pineapple Express, etc.). But the only thing comedic about Steph Curry and Lionel Messi is how much the two ballers seem to have in common. The liquid, never-seen-before style of play, the physics-defying moves, the silky finishes. It's all there. And now Messi has completed their bond by sending Curry a congratulatory jersey.

Back in December, Curry sent Messi his own jersey in a gesture of amistad (as they say in Español), congratulating the Argentine on his 30 million Instagram followers. (I know; it's weird.) In what kind of sounds like a subtle-diss, Messi promised Curry his own jersey at 10 million followers. (Steph's jersey number is 30 and Messi's is 10; I know, I know.) Well, Curry recently hit the mark, and so Messi sent him an autographed jersey.

Yeah, it sounds like a trans-national PR ploy. But there's a bit of a nice thread here. Because while they both have all those other things in common, Messi recently suffered a season-altering injury, and so too did Curry, leaving him out until at the earliest mid-week next week. Curry mentioned in his post,

"Thanks for all the messages and positive energy this past week. This gift was a great reminder of how incredible and supportive the fans are through everything."

So the timing couldn't have worked better. Because if it can't be a Warriors jersey he's putting on, the least Steph could do is wear a Barça jersey.
