Galatasaray Banned From European Competition For Breaking Financial Fair Play Rules

The Turkish giants failed to meet UEFA rules on permitted levels of financial loss

Turkish side Galatasaray have been banned from European competition for one year after breaching financial fair play regulations, according to a report from the Guardian quoting NTV.

The Istanbul club – who played in this season's Champions League group stages – failed to meet UEFA rules on permitted levels of financial loss. As such they are facing exclusion from continental competition next term, though a disappointing season on the pitch means they are set to miss out anyway. It is unclear whether the ban would still be applied to the 2016-17 season if this remains the case.

The news comes less than 24 hours after the club lost their second coach of the season. Mustafa Denizli left the side after four months, having taken over from Hamza Hamzaoglu in November. Gala currently sit fifth in the table, two points off a Europa League qualifying round spot.
