A grand jury in Harris County, Texas indicted Michael Bennett for a felony charge of injury of the elderly after an incident that allegedly took place during Super Bowl LI in 2017. According to Houston's KHOU, the alleged victim was a 66-year-old paraplegic woman who worked as security at NRG stadium.Bennett was on hand during the Super Bowl to watch his brother Martellus Bennett play for the New England Patriots. After the game was over—with the Patriots beating the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in an historic comeback—Bennett allegedly shoved his way onto the field where the Patriots were celebrating, despite security personnel telling Bennett to use a different entrance.Bennett didn't heed the advice, and that's when he allegedly hurt the woman on the security team.
The injury of the elderly—65 years or older—can carry a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines. Per KHOU, there is a warrant out for Bennett's arrest following the indictment and prosecutors are working with his legal team to bring him in.
