Belmont Beats Lipscomb on Last-Second Shot One Week After Beating them at the Buzzer

For the second time in as many weeks, Belmont beat cross-town rival on last-second shot.

One week ago, we here at VICE HQ had never heard of the Battle of the Boulevard between Belmont and Lipscomb, two schools, two miles apart, that play each other twice a year. We should come clean and admit that we'd actually never heard of the Lipscomb Bisons at all.

And now we want to fly to Nashville and engulf the entire team in a big group hug.

Last week, as loyal readers may recall, this happened:

Last night, in the 140th showdown, Lipscomb was after payback, this time on their home turf. The Bisons had a 13-point lead over the Bruins at halftime, went on an 8-0 run in OT to take a four-point lead with 0:52, and then…they collectively found out there's no such thing as Santa Claus.

Belmont guard Taylor Barnette, who came into the game shooting just 19.2 percent on threes and who was a lowly 2-11 from behind the arc in the game, sank a three-point shot from 25-feet with 3.3 left, just a few seconds after missing a closer triple.

Lipscomb has now lost 11 in a row to Belmont.

Next year the Battle of the Boulevard will be yours, Lipscomb. If the fates allow. Until then you'll have to muddle through somehow. Please Bisons, try and have yourself a merry little Christmas now.
