Max Domi Has Watched One Too Many Tie Domi Videos

The Canadiens forward threw a cheap shot at the Panthers' Aaron Ekblad in a preseason game. Sounds like something his dad would do.

Tie? Is that you?

When the Montreal Canadiens traded for Max Domi this summer—sending skilled, former No. 3 overall pick Alex Galchenyuk to Arizona in return—the team was hoping, and frankly expecting, a player with a lot of unrealized talent to start reaching his potential with a fresh start in a new organization.

The table was set for Domi to begin making his mark as he suited up for his first preseason game in a Habs uniform on Wednesday night, and he did just that, leaving a gigantic mark engraved on Aaron Ekblad's skull after delivering a raunchy sucker punch to the face of the Panthers blue-liner.

Domi was ejected and has a hearing scheduled with NHL player safety, meaning he'll likely face a multi-game suspension. Ekblad, who has a history of concussions, was bleeding heavily from the face and left to be evaluated, where he was reportedly given a clean bill of health.

It appears being on the wrong end of a few slashes from Ekblad earlier in the shift and just before the incident prompted Domi to go full grease-knuckle mode.

If a short, stocky Domi throwing a cheap shot to the brain of an opponent does seem like a somewhat familiar sight to you, it's because it is.

Max is the son of legendary Maple Leafs enforcer Tie Domi, who made a living fucking people up and exchanging knuckles with some of the biggest beasts to ever throw fists in the NHL.

Tie also threw his fair share of cheap shots in his day, too, like when he got suspended for the remainder of the 2001 playoffs after delivering this nasty elbow to the head of Devils defenceman Scott Niedermayer.

Or this legendary dirty blow on Ulf Samuelsson, which bares a striking resemblance to the one his son threw on Wednesday.

Or when he ended Martin Havlat's life with the puck nowhere in sight.

OK fine, Max has a long, long way to go before he reaches legendary shit-bag status like his father, but that heavy sucker bomb on Ekblad is vintage Tie.

UPDATE: Max Domi will miss the next five games after being suspended for the remainder of the preseason, forfeiting exactly $0 in salary as a result. Happy vacation!
