The air is thin up at Coors Field, and apparently so are the tempers. In what would be a mid-day, early-season snoozer that no one could take time off of work for (see: empty stands), the San Diego Padres faced the Colorado Rockies in the final game in a three-game series, and shit got heated.

San Diego's Luis Perdomo was pitching and apparently had the memory of a couple of Padres getting beaned, because he felt like firing one off at Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado. Here's a neat little summary of the back-and-forth:

Although it doesn't look like it hit him, the pitch did go behind Arenado and Nolan didn't take too kindly to it:

Notice that Arenado does a great job ducking Perdomo's glove as it comes sailing over his head, and notice that Perdomo, in turn, ducks Arenado's fist. We've got some pretty spry fighters here.

After the benches clear and some barely-audible curse words were picked up on the game mic, Padres bench coach Mark McGwire stepped in to have a couple of words with Arenado, in hopes of calming him down. Or maybe he was just expressing disappointment that he did not live up to his name with all his whiffed punches.
