WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Bret 'The Hitman' Hart says he's 100 percent recovered from prostate cancer a year after he underwent surgery for the potentially deadly disease. He thanks early detection for his improved health, according to the Canadian Press.

Hart, one of WWE's most famous wrestlers of the 1990s who was caught up in numerous controversies and feuds with owner Vince McMahon, among many others, says he's back in the gym and is urging men to get tested for the disease.

"You know, it's so critical for me to stress… that it's just a blood test. You gotta go in and get a blood test. If you're a man over 40, you need to go in. You don't want to be like my brother, Smith, who's a guy that didn't worry about it and it's too late now," Hart said.

"If you've got prostate cancer, if you don't catch it early, you could die from it. And if you catch it early, you can live a pretty normal life. I would say I'm pretty close to normal."

Hart, 59, says his older brother Smith, who also has prostate cancer, has around a year to live.

The Hitman has battled severe health issues before. He had a stroke in 2002 that left him partially paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. He's also undergone numerous surgeries on his knees, hernia, and wrist, and suffered concussions throughout his wrestling career.

Hart comes from a legendary wrestling family, which includes his father Stu Hart, who founded Stampede Wrestling. Hart's younger brother Owen was a popular wrestler in the 1990s, himself, but died in the ring in a tragic accident during a 1999 pay-per-view event.

Hart, a former WWE world heavyweight champ and one of the most iconic figures during the WWF days, was diagnosed with prostate cancer early last year, announcing his illness in an emotional Facebook post.
