AL East Champion Blue Jays Were Canada's Top Trending Google Search in 2015

Canada loves its Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays took the country by storm in 2015. A flurry of blockbuster trades helped power the team to an American League East title and a postseason berth for the first time since 1993. Toronto ultimately fell two wins shy of a World Series appearance, but the exciting playoff run produced memories that will live on forever—hello, Jose Bautista bat flip—and proved baseball is alive and well in Canada.

The numbers back it up. Nothing was more popular in the Great White North than the Blue Jays—not even Canada's new handsome prime minister, Justin Trudeau. "Blue Jays" was the top trending Google search term in Canada in 2015, edging Trudeau, the federal election and the Pan Am Games for the top spot.

"Blue Jays playoff run" was the highest trending news story and the club was the most searched Canadian team, topping the Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Impact and Ottawa Senators.

All in all, it was finally a good year to be a Blue Jays fan.
