Something Called "Trace McSorley" Threw an Incredible TD for Penn State in the Rose Bowl [UPDATE]

Trace McSorley had a rough start to the game, but this touchdown was perfect.

We don't really have time to get into what is or is not a real person's name, so we will just accept, for the sake of argument, that "Trace McSorley" is really the name of Penn State's quarterback. And congratulations are in order for Trace, because he threw just about as perfect a touchdown pass as can be thrown and should feel proud to admire it.

Under pressure on second-and-nine, McSorley scrambled to the far sideline and launched a 40-plus yard heave to the corner of the endzone, off one foot. Chris Godwin bobbled it slightly, leading to an inconclusive booth review, but he could not have asked for a better ball to catch. The defender, Adoree' Jackson slipped during the play and Godwin was able to get enough separation for McSorley to hit him right in the hands.

McSorley had been red hot coming into the game, throwing for 384 yards and four touchdowns to bring the Nittany Lions back from 21 points down to beat Wisconsin 38-31 in the Big Ten Championship. He wasn't quite as hot to start this game, though: his first two pass attempts were intercepted by USC.

McSorley then found his big tight end Mike Gesicki for an 11-yard touchdown to get within seven of USC at 27-21 with less than a minute to play in the half.

Update: After forcing USC to go three and out to open the second half, Saquon Barkley just turned the USC defense into swiss cheese and rumbled 79 yards on the first play from scrimmage to give Penn State their first lead of the game, 28-27.
