Ryan Lochte Says He Lied to NBC About Being Robbed Because He Was Still Drunk On Air

It's not like he was making excuses to a fellow frat bro for pissing on his bed—this is the whole country of Brazil.

Alright, alright. So we've all heard a lot about Ryan Lochte and the swimming bros for the past few days, but this is a particularly choice piece of information: Lochte actually told the Brazilian media that he was drunk when he lied about being robbed to NBC. Seems legit, right?

In case you live on a rock island with internet access once every four months, Lochte is an American Olympic swimmer, who, along with three other USA swimmers, trashed and pissed on a gas station and were held back to pay for damages by armed security guards. And instead of owning up to the incident, or not mentioning it at all to keep the attention off of you, Lochte went on air with NBC and said that he was robbed at gunpoint. That's more than a blurry memory. That's a boldfaced lie on live TV.

Yesterday, Lochte appeared on Brazil's Jornal Nacional news program, and told them (via translation from Portuguese) that he was just blasted when he gave the NBC interview.

Lochte: I think we were still in shock but we were trying to forget everything and we were still intoxicated. Not that I'm saying that alcohol is an excuse, it isn't, especially the actions I took. But we were very intoxicated.

Q: You were on TV the next day.

Lochte: It was hours later, so I was still intoxicated.

Maybe (somehow?) he felt that he had a more sympathetic audience with the Brazilian press? But it's not like you're making excuses to a fellow frat bro for pissing on his bed—this is the whole country of Brazil. Best not to do your interviews drunk, bro.
