Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo is reportedly undergoing neurological testing in the intensive care unit at Buffalo General Hospital, according to The Associated Press, to determine the cause of a mystery illness that has kept him out of the lineup since late March.

The Sabres released a short statement on Wednesday, confirming that Okposo was under the care of doctors but refrained from elaborating further.

The 28-year-old, who has spent the past three days undergoing a slew of tests as a result of the undisclosed illness, suited up for two games after a rib injury caused him to miss 10 contests, but became ill prior to a March 28 game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Since then, it's been a whirlwind of a time for Okposo and the Sabres organization.

"As a coach and as a person (I'm) very concerned for him in this situation. He's sick and dealing with that. It's a difficult thing for him to be dealing with right now in this situation," Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma told the Buffalo News on Wednesday.

Okposo is fourth on the team in scoring with 19 goals and 45 points in 65 games in his first season with the Sabres. He signed a seven-year contract with the club as an unrestricted free agent last July. Okposo is a three-time 20-goal scorer who posted 369 points in his first nine NHL seasons spent with the New York Islanders.
