Moments before Vladimir Putin took the ice for a hockey game in Moscow, CBS News correspondent Elizabeth Palmer scored a quick interview with the Russian president. The story of the day, of course, is U.S. President Donald Trump's dismissal of FBI director James Comey, who had been investigating the Trump campaign's connection with Russia before he was abruptly terminated.In the grand scheme of questions that could have been asked, Palmer chose a fairly benign one: What effect will the firing have on U.S.-Russian relations? Here's Putin's answer:
While Putin did answer "there will be no effect," he then launched into a thin-skinned defense of the situation, for some reason, by saying, "Your question looks very funny to me, don't be angry with me." He then said—again, for some reason—"We have nothing to do with that."Shortly after, photos emerged of President Trump meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Those photos were provided by Russian agencies, as the United States press were not permitted in the meeting.Putin's Hockey Legends squad won the game, 17-6. The Russian president scored seven goals.
