NFL Waiver Wire Workout: Week 7

Fantasy football expert Christopher Harris breaks down possible free agent adds for your team in Week 7.

For fantasy football advice based on film review every single weekday from now until 2017, listen to the Harris Football Podcast at www.HarrisFootball.com, which won the Fantasy Sports Writers Association podcast of the year award for 2015.

Because league formats vary, one size doesn't fit all when it comes to your waiver wire. That's why I break possible free agent adds into three categories. Follow me on Twitter for the latest on possible additions to your fantasy roster.

Addable in All Leagues

Zach Zenner, RB, DET (owned in 1% of Yahoo leagues). Odds are that either Theo Riddick or Dwayne Washington (and perhaps both) will be ready to return for Week 7 against Washington, in which case it's possible Zenner resumes his minor role in the Lions offense. So while I'm not psyched about spending a ton for Zenner—and in fact would clearly prefer to add Jay Ajayi first—I'll say this: Zenner played pretty well in a fill-in role Sunday against the L.A. Rams and has a no-nonsense, one-cut running style that should be successful near the goal line. The way Detroit has lost RBs this year makes me think that Zenner could make starts again.

Kenny Britt, WR, LA (11% owned). I don't trust Case Keenum, and throughout his career Britt has had an alarming tendency to disappear just when you think he's about to become reliable. But he did score two touchdowns Sunday and, more important, has at least 67 yards receiving in five of six games. Never lacking for an attractive size/speed combo, maybe Britt has finally put together his mental game at age 28.

Jack Doyle, TE, IND (11% owned). Dwayne Allen suffered a sprained ankle Sunday night, and given the speed with which he was ruled out, my guess is it's a high-ankle sprain. That gives Doyle—a blood-and-guts type with good hands and sub-optimal athleticism—a clear path to high-single-digit targets on a weekly basis, beginning Week 7 against the Tennessee Titans.

Giants Defense (15% owned). New York's pass rush has been anemic, but I think they're in a good spot at home against the Rams in Week 7. It's true Keenum played well Sunday in Detroit, but generally speaking the Rams have been turnover-prone. Opposing defenses have improved on their average performances against them.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still adds: Jay Ajayi, RB, MIA (31%); Devontae Booker, RB, DEN (27%); Kenneth Dixon, RB, BAL (28%); Dwayne Washington, RB, DET (11%).

Speculative Adds

Kendall Wright has our attention with his otherworldly catch on Sunday. Photo by Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Ty Montgomery, WR, GB (1% owned). Davante Adams left Sunday's loss against Dallas with a concussion and seems unlikely to play Thursday night against the Chicago Bears. Montgomery filled in on 34 snaps, and Jeff Janis (0% owned) played 32 snaps, but the difference between them is that for the moment Montgomery appears to be the Packers' backup running back, since James Starks had a knee scope.

Kendall Wright, WR, TEN (3% owned). Wright missed most of training camp with an injured hamstring and was inactive for the Titans' first three contests. Sunday against Cleveland was his first start, and he may have been wide open for his touchdown, but he still made an otherworldly catch on an overthrown pass. I don't expect any consistent value to come from Marcus Mariota's receiver corps, but Wright has my attention.

Ladarius Green, TE, PIT (9% owned). Green is eligible to come off injured reserve as soon as this Sunday against the New England Patriots, though it's unclear if the Steelers will activate him. In fact, it's unclear what Green's injury even was: Did he have complications from offseason ankle surgery, or complications from repeated concussions? If he gets healthy and if the Steelers get Ben Roethlisberger back from his knee scope, Green has more upside than the other Pittsburgh tight ends. He's a great athlete.

Colin Kaepernick, QB, SF (9% owned). I'll say it: I thought Kaep played well in what turned out to be a blowout loss in Buffalo. He had the 49ers within a single score with a few minutes left in the third quarter, having played smart and taken more chances down the field than Blaine Gabbert. He's also a source of significant rush yards. There's room for improvement Sunday against Tampa, but I liked what I saw.

Torrey Smith, WR, SF (25% owned). And if Kaepernick is going to be a "thing" again, he'll need a deep threat receiver. Maybe he can make some music with Smith, a guy he basically couldn't use in 2015 because of the QB's descent into quarterbacking awfulness. Against Buffalo Sunday, Smith scored a long touchdown thanks to a blown coverage, and Kaepernick had him for another long score and just overthrew him.

Justin Forsett, RB, DET (32% owned). The Lions probably put Forsett in an unfair position in Week 6, having to use him just days after signing him out of desperation. Zenner was good; Forsett was not. The guess here is that Theo Riddick or Dwayne Washington will return soon, and Forsett might actually get cut again.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still speculative adds: Alfred Morris, RB, DAL (15%); Mike Gillislee, RB, BUF (4%); Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, TB (22%); Wendell Smallwood, RB, PHI (8%); Andre Ellington, RB, ARI (4%); Matt Asiata, RB, MIN (17%); Dion Lewis, RB, NE (25%); Breshad Perriman, WR, BAL (4%); Anquan Boldin, WR, DET (20%); Mohamed Sanu, WR, ATL (29%); Pierre Garcon, WR, WAS (14%); Jamison Crowder, WR, WAS (29%); Dontrelle Inman, WR, SD (6%); Charles Clay, TE, BUF (24%); Cameron Brate, TE, TB (19%).

Deep-League Adds

Vernon Davis could get another start this week. Photo by Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Vernon Davis, TE, WAS (4% owned). Provided Jordan Reed isn't ready to return from his umpteenth concussion, Davis will get another start. He scored on a tasty post route in Week 6.

Tyler Boyd, WR, CIN (5% owned). Boyd was noticeably calmer and more controlled Week 6 against the Patriots, making a tough catch in traffic in the fourth quarter and looking dangerous in the open field. The Bengals would be better off if he could surpass Brandon LaFell on the depth chart.

Mike Davis, RB, SF (0% owned). When Carlos Hyde missed a series Sunday with a bad shoulder, it was Davis—and not Shaun Draughn—who appeared to be his direct backup on running plays. Deep handcuffers can take note.

Landry Jones, QB, PIT (0% owned). If you're in a deep two-QB league, you can't afford to be choosy. Jones will start Week 7 against New England as Roethlisberger recovers from knee surgery.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still addable in deep leagues: Chris Thompson, RB, WAS (8%); Rob Kelley, RB, WAS (1%); Jalen Richard, RB, OAK (32%); Bobby Rainey, RB, NYG (9%); Travaris Cadet, RB, NO (1%); Paul Perkins, RB, NYG (2%); Dexter McCluster, RB, SD (1%); Kenneth Farrow, RB, SD (0%); Robert Woods, WR, BUF (22%); Adam Thielen, WR, MIN (5%); Kenny Stills, WR, MIA (10%); Adam Humphries, WR, TB (4%); Brandon LaFell, WR, CIN (8%); Josh Doctson, WR, WAS (2%); Brian Quick, WR LA (9%); Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, NYJ (3%); Richard Rodgers, TE, GB (17%).
