VICE Sports World News Roundup: August 4

Start your day with VICE Sports. Here's our morning roundup of the sports news from around the world.

Good morning, America. Welcome to the VICE Sports World News Roundup. Be sure to stop by daily for your morning headlines.

It's the 4th of August, 2015, and Sepp Blatter is still president of FIFA.

Allegations of… copyright infringement have cast a very dark shadow over the newly-awarded Beijing Winter Olympics. Did Olympic organizers take their theme song from Disney's Frozen? Maybe!

Playing in front of what sounds like dozens of fans, Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez, in his debut, scored his first goal for his new Qatari club Al Sadd.

Just a day after Katie Ledecky broke the 1500 meter women's freestyle world record, South African swimmer Cameron van der Burgh set a new world record in the men's 50 meter breaststroke at the World Swimming Championships. He did it in 26.62, 5/10ths of a second faster than the no-longer-standing 2009 record.

The BBC reports that spending by Premier League clubs this transfer window is already at the 500 million pound mark. Expect it to rise. A lot. Especially if the rumors that Manchester United is trying to bring Gareth Bale over from Real Madrid for 100 million pounds are true.

Speaking of transfer rumors, the hot gossip in Germany is that U.S. International Aron Johannsson is on the verge of signing (link in German) for Bundesliga team Werder Bremen. He won't be cheap. Former U.S. International Earnie Stewart is the sporting director at Johansson's current club, AZ Alkmaar, and Stewart apparently drives a hard bargain.
