Unlucky Kiwi Neil Wagner Given Out, In Most Bizarre Runout You'll Ever See

Always slide your bat.

Playing cricket growing up, one of the first things your coaches teach you is to always slide your bat when you are running from crease to crease.

It was a fundamental that New Zealand test seamer Neil Wagner missed in Christchurch yesterday - and, somewhat bizarrely, saw the umpire raise his finger because of it.

Wagner was given out after Bangladeshi wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan threw a delivered ball from the boundary at the stumps after the Black Caps tail-ender had hit it for two runs.

Though Wagner was easily across the crease, the third umpire gave him out due to Law 29 where, according to the New Zealand Herald, "neither foot had yet been grounded behind the popping crease."

Wagner's dismissal counted for little in the end, however. Though Bangladesh dismissed New Zealand for 354 in their first innings, they could only summon 173 in their own second - leaving the hosts just 109 to chase for victory.

New Zealand achieve that with nine wickets still in hand, securing an eighth straight win over Bangladesh in all forms. The series clean sweep also sees the Black Caps rise to fifth in the world test rankings.
