Brooks Orpik Takes Skate to the Face, Hit with Beer After Game

Brooks Orpik had a tough day at the office last night, taking a skate to the face and bleeding all over the place, but at least it ended with a beer.

So, how was your night? Pretty good? Got home from work and watched some sports before passing out and doing it all over again? That's nice. Better than getting a skate to your face, gushing blood all over the ice, only to get hit with a beer when you somehow come back into the game later, anyway.

While in front of his own net, John Carlson lost his balance and went tumbling to the ground, with his legs flailing in the air. Just as he was rolling over, Orpik skated into the mess and Carlson's skate caught him right in the corner of the mouth. Here's a lovely image of the referee cleaning up the bloody ice from the hit.

Orpik went into the locker room, where I imagine trainers cauterized his face with a blowtorch, and he was back on the ice in time to celebrate the Capitals' 2-1 overtime win over the Islanders. Islanders fans, trying to get the most out of their time at the Coliseum before they refuse to travel to Brooklyn next year, kept the hits coming and tossed a beer on the ice that hit Orpik. Jokes on them, though, he probably needed it more than most.
