EA Sports announced today that it was removing Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane from the cover of NHL 16, and from all promotional efforts for the game. Kane was to appear on the cover alongside his teammate Jonathan Toews following the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup win over the Anaheim Ducks, and to serve as spokesman for the game. The move comes after last week's news that Kane is being investigated for an alleged rape.

The investigation is ongoing and Kane has not yet been charged. According to anonymous sources who spoke to the Buffalo News, Kane was partying at a local bar, where he met his accuser. They left for Kane's home around 3 A.M., where, the woman alleges, he "overpowered her and raped her." The sources also report that the woman has bite marks on her shoulders and scratch marks on her leg. There are other, irresponsible comments from the bar owner in that News story which you should not concern yourself with.

EA Sports is the first company to pull away from Kane, and as this case goes on it might not be the only one.
