Donald Trump, Lady Gaga, and Others Kick Ronda Rousey While She's Down

Saturday night saw one of the most remarkable stories in all of combat sports unfold in Melbourne, Australia as Holly Holm defied the bookmakers and dominated WMMA figurehead Ronda Rousey in devastating fashion, punctuating their fight with a headkick KO: the champion's reign crumbling before our very eyes.

While it was Holm's shin that brought the fight to a sudden end, it appears fellow fighters, former acquaintances and well-known media personalities are taking this rare opportunity to essentially kick Rousey while she's down via the medium of social media.

Glad to see that — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump)November 16, 2015

Donald Trump and Rousey have had a few run-ins in the press before, with the tycoon-turned politician trying to leap onto the Rousey bandwagon by proclaiming how she liked him as a candidate. This was promptly rebuffed by Rousey, who later threw her weight behind Democrat Bernie Sanders and his attempts at becoming the new President of the United States.

After Rousey's rebuttal, little was heard about the apparent beef the former UFC women's bantamweight champion and Trump had been cooking up. However, Rousey's ridicule of Trump's credentials as a potential president must have irked the man worth an estimated $4.5 billion.

Rousey's bitter foes Cristiane 'Cyborg' Justino and Miesha Tate both chimed in with their own gloating, smug messages on social media immediately after their rivals' devastating loss. But, another female figure had Rousey in her crosshairs: Lady Gaga. Yes, you heard that right.

Apparently Gaga is either a massive fan of Holm… or humility. Either way, it would appear she took delight in Rousey's comeuppance on Saturday night after her refusal to take up Holm's offer of touching gloves. In the meantime, the Olympian's former manager Darin Harvey—who is presently in the process of taking his ex-client to court—also took to Instagram to say the punishment Holm dished out was a nice dose of karma for Rousey.

While I understand how the characters we have in fight sports are more than capable of riling up fans—and earning their support in equal measure—it does appear odd how celebrities without any links to MMA are reveling in the demise of Rousey's reign as UFC champion.

Despite what you think of her, Rousey has done an awful lot to raise the profile of MMA and female athletes. Rousey is a polarizing figure: there's no doubt about that. All you have to do is watch The Ultimate Fighter series 18 to find that out for yourself. But, it does feel uncomfortable to know these media personalities can openly mock a fighter who has put their body at risk for the sake of the casual fan's entertainment with no repercussion.

Saying that, the thought of Trump coming face-to-face with Rousey any time soon does make me genuinely fear for the guy.
