Eric Decker Misses OTA's to Attend CMT Awards, New York Media Already Handling it Well

We have our first New York Jets controversy. It's only June.

Jets receiver Eric Decker recently missed two days of voluntary team practices in order to attend the CMT awards in Nashville. He did so in the interest of supporting his country singer wife, Jessie James.

The couple recently had a baby, so Decker explained that it's payback for James giving birth, and his loving gesture even had the blessing of head coach Rex Ryan.

"When your wife gives birth and goes through nine months of tough days to give you a child, you respect the woman a lot more," Decker said. "Obviously, she's very important to me and her career is very important to me as well. A marriage is give and take. Any relationship is give and take."

Such thoughtful words from the photogenic fellow are guaranteed to send a slew of single women into a severe and deep depression as this story makes the rounds. But no, Decker's sentiment will absolutely not be enough for the thirsty New York media. His excuse has already been called "a bit of a stretch" by the New York Post.

It's mid-June and we're talking about missing voluntary practices, which quite clearly make for the proper ingredients to trigger questions of dedication and focus. So have at it, Jets fans. Though for anyone even remotely reasonable, in lieu of listening to sports radio this afternoon, it would be wise to instead attack yourself with a piping hot frying pan.
