The scandal-plagued Parramatta Eels) have lasted exactly one day in 2017 before being rocked by another bombshell. Twenty-three-year-old winger, Vai Toutai, has had his contract terminated in a mutual agreement with the club after allegedly smashing a glass over the head of a Rebels Bikie member during a night out in western Sydney in early December. According to the Daily Telegraph, the alleged incident was provoked by a comment made by the bikie to one of Toutai's relatives.

When police arrived at the bar, the bikie is understood to have told police he did want to press charges. He would exact his own revenge instead. Toutai, who played 33 games for the Eels since his debut in 2013, and has represented Tonga and the NSW Under 20s, requested a release from the club after they launched an internal investigation into the incident and informed the NRL. The club announced in a statement yesterday they had agreed to terminate Toutai's contract and will not investigate the matter further.

"The club is aware of an incident that took place in December 2016 and, as per the club's normal protocols, the club kept all relevant stakeholders updated throughout the entire process. This included the NRL Integrity Unit," the statement read.

Toutai will now await the outcome of an NRL investigation. Their findings will dictate whether he can continue to play in the NRL or not. If found guilty the NRL can refuse to register any future playing contract he signs with another club.

It is not the first time Parramatta has been linked to organised crime figures in the last 12 months. Former Eels star Junior Paulo, who is a close friend of Toutai's, was warned by the NSW Police organised crime squad after he was pictured dining with a member of the Nomads bikie gang and other known criminals. Star Parramatta five/eight Corey Norman was also warned for the same incident.

Prior to that legendary fullback, Jarryd Hayne, also came to grief with the bikies during an incident in Kings Cross in which he intervened in an altercation involving NSW origin teammate Mark Gasnien and outlaws. Hayne was shot at shortly after while outside Mcdonalds in middle of the Cross. That shooting followed a drive-by just 200 meters down the road, eight hours earlier, in which nightclub manager, Charlie Saleh, father of former NRL star, Hassan, was shot and hospitalised.
