Pedro Strop did not have a good night for the Chicago Cubs last night when Joe Maddon called on him to preserve a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning against the Cardinals. He gave up a game-tying home run to Greg Garcia, hit Kolten Wong, and walked another batter before getting the hook. He did at least record one out, but it was not a good performance. On his way out of the game, Strop made a gesture pointing to the sky, just like almost every single other baseball player does after doing literally anything. NOT ON BOB COSTAS'S WATCH.Costas ripped Strop, saying we can only "wonder that he is asking some departed relative for forgiveness for this atrocious performance." That's pretty harsh, Bob! His voice is dripping with sarcasm, so it's safe to assume Costas just found the whole thing kind of incongruous and was making a joke about that. I feel safe in this assumption because the only other interpretation would be that the man calling baseball games for MLB Network gets enraged by the personal superstitions of baseballs players, especially when they don't do a great job one time. Which obviously borders on the insane. You expect that just do your job crap from some dullard calling up Joey Nuts and the Steez, not a guy calling play-by-play for Baseball's own TV channel.
