Asdrubal Cabrera Got Ejected and Took For-ev-er to Leave the Field

I don't know how many Spring Training ejections there have been, but there's never been one like this.

Asdrubal Cabrera did a couple amazin' things against the Nationals on Thursday, in pretty quick succession. Moments after reaching first base on a single in the fourth inning, he was ejected by home plate umpire Angel Hernandez. Then, because there is no exit from the visitor's dugout at the Nationals spring training complex, Cabrera slowly—and I mean s l o w l y—walked to the exit in right field.

Hernandez and Cabrera had exchanged words earlier in the at-bat when the Mets shortstop asked for time. He did not get it, but he did get a strike. Cabrera singled on the next pitch, looked back at Hernandez on his way down the line, and said, "Come on, you're better than that" when he got to first. Hernandez then tossed him.

Since he couldn't stay in the dugout, and the dugout had no exit, Cabrera very deliberately walked from third base foul territory to the outfield exit. The video above—which, yes, has been set to "The Lonely Man," the theme from The Incredible Hulk—is a minute and a half long. So much for intentional walks that speed up the game.
