Hospital Futilely Warns Crystal Palace Fans about the Perils of Drinking

It would suck to need a blood transfusion after a car crash, but have to wait around because Nigel Bolingbrook had too many nips of Boddingtons.

The FA Cup Final is today, and people are excited—as people are wont to be at the end of the English football season. People will also—shocker!—drink alcohol to celebrate not only a victory, but simply the fact that it's a Saturday and that there's sport going on (heck, they don't even need sport to happen). So why a South London hospital went to the trouble of warning Crystal Palace fans not to overdo it is well beyond me.

Crystal Palace looks to secure one of their first major award in the club's history—against Manchester United, who beat them in the FA Cup Final in 1990. Revenge is in the air, and so are the booze—enough to concern Croydon University Hospital lead consultant Dr. Kathryn Channing.

She told the Croydon Advertiser,

We know people across Croydon will want to get together with friends and family to watch. We don't want to stop them from enjoying this amazing event. However, we also don't want anyone to spoil their weekend by ending up in hospital. Our A&E department is always busy and we will prioritize those whose needs are most urgent. We are all hoping that Palace win—and that people celebrate responsibly—so that it is a memorable weekend for all the right reasons.

Alright, makes enough sense. It would suck to need a blood transfusion after a car crash, but have to wait around because Nigel Bolingbrook had too many nips of Boddingtons, hey?

Nevertheless, asking a fan not to drink too much is like Louis van Gaal asking Manchester United not to sack him. It's possible, sure. But it's likely not going to happen.
