MLS Playoff Game Delayed 40 Minutes Because They Painted Lines on the Field Wrong

Officials delayed the start of a MLS playoff game Tuesday night because workers had painted the lines on the field incorrectly. Now, before you go and say something like, "This was exactly what Jurgen Klinsmann meant when he said the U.S. doesn't know shit about soccer," well, buddy, it happened in Canada, so save it.

The Montreal Impact were set to host Toronto FC in the first leg of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Because it was a huge playoff game and not a typical contest, they changed the venue from Saputo Stadium to Olympic Stadium, in order to accommodate the 66,000 fans who wanted to watch in person.

And as For The Win noted, they all had to wait once they arrived:

"When the officials arrived, they noticed a major issue with the 18-yard box lines.

"It was painted to incorrect measurements.

"Groundskeepers had to repaint the field, causing nearly a 40-minute delay."

If there's a joke about how you think watching soccer can be like watching paint dry, well, now is the time to make it.

Once the field dried, Montreal beat Toronto 3-2 in Leg 1. There will be another leg, at Toronto, in a week. The playoffs won't return to Montreal this season, which is too bad because at least they know the field is painted correctly now.
