Longhorns to Charge Upwards of $60k in Tickets for Rival Texas Tech Band

But they're springing for it anyway.

University of Texas—bless their heart. According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Texas Tech's athletic director Robert Giovannetti claims what used to be a "gentleman's agreement" to comp for another team's band tickets has now given way to an agreement among four Texas teams in the Big 12 to start charging for bands' tickets. For Texas Tech's Goin' Band, that means throwing stacks equal to $60,000 for an appearance.

With 600 seats made available for the band, and tickets at $100 a pop, you don't need to search hard on your multiplication tables to see that Texas Tech is getting screwed. "If we don't sell all of ours, we'll send them back to Texas, and they'll sell to their fans or whatever," Giovanetti said.

Or whatever. Giovanetti refused to let this whole 60 G's thing stop the legendary football-crazy state rivalry, which awards the winner its own special trophy. Tech President M. Duane Nellis' office and the Tech athletics department are partnering up to front the costs for the road game appearance. "That's why they're called the Goin' Band," Giovannetti said.
