This Scottish Brewery Has Made a “Truth Serum” Beer

The aptly named “Smoke and Mirrors” beer contains liquorice root, mullein, and vine essence that supposedly encourages drinkers to reveal their true thoughts.

They say in vino veritas but now, it seems you could end up spilling your worldly secrets after a pint of beer.

At least, that's what Scottish brewery Innis and Gunn claims its new Smoke and Mirrors beer infused with a "truth serum" can make drinkers do. And they're sending it straight across the Atlantic to presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Special batches of the beer, which is described in a press release as having a "digestive biscuit flavour with delicious creamy malt notes," were dispatched yesterday to the Clinton and Trump campaign offices. Innis and Gunn says it hopes the delivery will remind both politicians about "the importance of truthful campaigning."

So, how exactly do you make a truth-telling beer?

Innis and Gunn uses trio of ingredients for its Smoke and Mirrors brew: liquorice root to "improve cognitive functions," mullein, a "natural relaxant that encourages open and honest behaviour," and vine essence to "help the drinker to inspire or lead people."

Speaking to MUNCHIES, Dougal Sharp, founder and head brewer at Innis and Gunn said that the idea for the beer was inspired by the current President.

He said: "As we know, beer is such a powerful instrument for change, I recall Obama holding a "beer summit" back in 2009 to bring together aggrieved parties. We want to continue that tradition."

But don't get too excited about finally being able to unearth your flat's milk thief after a round at the pub, Smoke and Mirrors beer won't be available for public purchase.

Meanwhile us proles will just have to hold out and see whether Clinton and Trump sample the beer and begin spouting outrageous and unprecedented statements. Oh wait …
