It's the 28th of July, 2015, and Sepp Blatter is still president of FIFA. Vladimir Putin has lent his support to Blatter: "I think people like Mr Blatter or the heads of big international sporting federations, or the Olympic Games, deserve special recognition. If there is anyone who deserves the Nobel prize, it's those people." Meanwhile, former FIFA vice president Jack Warner is in New York fighting his upcoming trial tooth and nail.

Boston's 2024 Olympic bid has been scuttled. The USOC wanted to pin Boston to a contract, but Boston's mayor Martin J. Walsh refused, apparently wary of the sketchy economic benefits associated with hosting Olympics: "I cannot commit to putting the taxpayers at risk."

U.S. Women's World Cup winners and national team veterans Shannon Boxx and Lauren Holiday are officially retiring. Box has 27 goals and 191 caps; Holiday has 24 goals in 130 caps.

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, 37, will join the Montreal Impact. Despite his advanced years, Drogba will probably be one of the league's best strikers.

Down in New York, Bradley Wright-Phillips' much more famous older brother Shaun has signed for Bradley's Red Bulls. The brothers haven't played together since they were both at Manchester City in 2005. Could be fun!

Bayern Munich and German star Jerome Boateng has signed on with Jay-Z's agency. "America is a big market," Boateng said. "With Jay-Z and Roc Nation I have a lot of opportunity there. We want to try what is possible."
