Patriots Foil Their Own Punt Return When Duron Harmon Trips up Danny Amendola

The Pats almost screwed themselves out of seven sure points.

The New England Patriots are the most professional and well-coached team in the history of coaches, and teams, and the universe. This is a matter of public record. Every once in a while though, players fuck up in the heat of the moment, or, every once in a while, the Patriots play the fucking New York Giants.

With a 20-10 lead halfway through the third quarter, the Giants looked to pin the Pats deep in their own territory and punted the ball away. Danny Amendola had other plans, and scampered his way through the coverage team and got to the sideline, where it looked like he would coast into the end zone. He picked up a couple of huge blocks to spring him and only needed more block before he was home free. He got the block, and then Duron Harmon tripped him. Every single Patriot player in the area turned around and looked at Harmon like he was an insane person.

To be fair to Harmon, he was trying to get out of Amendola's way as he cut back to the middle of the field, but their legs crossed and Amendola went sprawling to the ground just short of the goal line. To be unfair to Harmon, there wasn't a single royal blue jersey near Amendola, and the closest guy was already being blocked. The Pats did eventually punch it in after a few attempts and a pass interference call in the end zone, but Amendola had an 89-yard punt return touchdown. And then he didn't.
